Bloggers beware of who might be watching!


Recently many employers including various governments have begun to restrict employee access to Blogs and other social network websites. The Province of Ontario has recently banned access to various sites such as Facebook, You Tube and others. Facebook has approximately two million Canadian users. Employees trying to access the sites receive an "access denied" message which appears on the screens of any Ontario government computer. The popularity of these websites and the ability of Bloggers to post their thoughts and opinions on any subject have made them increasingly popular. Accessing the sites from work has now drawn the attention of employers who are concerned with productivity in the workplace. Increased work demands coupled by fewer employees have made companies more aware of employee activity during work hours. As well, Blogs allow freedom of expression but can also be evidence of workplace issues such as bullying, discrimination and other organizational problems. Corporations are beginning to monitor sites in order to protect its image and prevent disclosure of sensitive information. Posting thoughts, ideas, comments, financial information is very easy and like emails, Blogs are there for the world to see. Something to think about when Blogging…
